SELLING A USED CAR ON A CLASSIFIEDS WEBSITE
First off all you want to make your classified ad as complete as possible. Give as much details as possible and attach at least one picture. Make a list of details rather than a long story, look at some different used car classifieds to look for some good examples.
The title of the classified is very important! It will decide if an interested buyer will read your classified ad, and will decide how your used car will be found in search engines. Name at least the brand, the year the car was made, the colour, and the engine size. Always include the asking price for your used car in your classified, but remember bargaining will leave you with about 85% of that price (on average).
BUYING A USED CAR ON A CLASSIFIEDS WEBSITE
Buying a used car on a classifieds website is something you need to take your time for. Scan different classifieds websites for a while or set an alarm service. Some classifieds websites send you an email when a new used car matching your criteria is posted, other offer a RSS service that automatically shows the used car on your personal page. Once you contact a seller of a used car (best by phone), be prepared to ask a lot of questions. It would be a waste of your time to visit the seller and find out that a few simple questions over the phone had made you decide not to buy the used car. Always ask why the person is selling his car. Once you’re there, look for signs that might indicate extensive use of the car like a worn off steering wheel and worn off door handles (especially with older cars where the meter is easily turned back). Take a long drive in the car, and use all the options off the car. Don’t forget to drive in reverse as well. If you want to buy the used car, go to the bank together with the seller to make the transaction, don’t bring a pile of cash. And finally, always try to find out as much as possible about the identity of the seller.
Good luck buying or selling a used car!
